The annual season of game presentations and conferences is approaching, which means that Capcom will finally show Resident Evil 9. It is time to look back and remember the past parts of the series – to discuss which turned out to be successful and which are not real. And of course choose the best of the best.
Attention: The author’s opinion may not coincide with the opinion of the Vgtimes.
It is worth noting that around fifty of the Resident Evil games were released during the long years of the franchise. Evaluating everything is still the task. That is why this material is exclusively focused on the most important games of the series and their remakes.
This top is compiled in the order of growing quality: from less successful projects to more.
Resident Evil 6
- Year: 2012;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch;
- Cooperative: yes (local and online mode).
Do I have to explain why this is the weakest number of the series? The Resident Evil 6 almost completely lost its connection with the franchise: the heroes were the same, but the sixth part was brought in the direction of the action that there was no trace of the identity of the “monastery of evil”. Capcom herself then realized her fault and when it was time to develop a follow -up, she made a full reversal back to the survival horror.
What do you think of Resident Evil 6?
Resident Evil Zero
- Year: 2002;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Gamecube, Wii;
- Cooperative: No.
Not the worst game in the world, but the mediocre numbered “residence of evil”. On the one hand, Resident Evil Zero has something to love: it is atmospheric and very beautiful – especially If you go through a remaster. On the other hand, the mechanics of the game for two main characters are not successful. So in zero it is necessary to spend a lot of time managing two stock at the same time, which kills all the pleasure.
Resident Evil (1996)
- Year: 1996;
- Platforms: PlayStation, PC, Sega Saturn, Nintendo DS;
- Cooperative: No.
A breakthrough game for his time, which is unfortunately tangibly outdated. Play today The first resident nwraad is only logical because of memes – to evaluate funny dialogues and speeches.
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica

- Year: 2000;
- Platforms: Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Gamecube, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4;
- Cooperative: No.
Many fans are still making it or they have to attribute Resident Evil – Code: Veronica for the most important games of the series. Most agree that it should be considered a license plate, especially if you take into account the importance of plot events. In general, the project has pretty diligent fans who defend his honor on the forums and have long been asking for a remake. The reconsideration would really not interfere, because Code: Veronica suffers from dubious GameMeSign solutions -such as strange jumps in complexity or exaggerated aggressive back -crane.
Resident Evil 3 (Remake)

- Year: 2020;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/s, Nintendo Switch (Cloud version);
- Cooperative: No.
The updated Resident Evil 3 -fans of the classics do not complain much: too much original content cuts Capcom, without really replacing it. However, if we consider it outside the context of comparison with the original source, it is worth recognizing that the remake of Resident Evil 3 is a completely exciting game. A solid action film for a few evenings is dynamic and cinematic.
Resident Evil 5
- Year: 2009;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch;
- Cooperative: yes (local and online mode).
A beautiful cooperative game. Not all connoisseurs of the franchise such as the abundance of action Resident Evil 5, however, passing on a friend is a complete pleasure. The project rarely gives breath: the game has many tense fights and interesting scenarios – according to the type of the same old temple, where it is necessary to prevent sunlight from burning their path.
Resident Evil Village

- Year: 2021;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/s, iOS, Mac;
- Cooperative: No.
The eighth Re has many supporters: Resident Evil Village catches people with a memorable environment, plot and a clear ensemble of villains. Nevertheless, it is difficult to call it flawless. Village does not have a whole identity: it does not always jump successfully between Survival Horror and an action film, as well as between Gothic Fantasy and Science Fiction.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

- Year: 2017;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/s, Nintendo Switch (Cloud version), iOS, Mac;
- Cooperative: No.
If not for the disappointing last third part, the prices would do that Resident Evil 7 wasn’t that. This is without a doubt the worst game of the series. The gloomy and dirty mansion of the Baker family is already scared, but when the indestructible head of the family also runs past his corridors, Adrenaline goes out of the limit. Resident Evil 7 Antagonists retain a certain part of humanity, and it is for this reason that they scare more than monsters in other “residence of evil”.
Resident Evil 4
- Year: 2005;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Gamecube, Wii, Nintendo Switch;
- Cooperative: No.
The original Resident Evil 4 was spent on the accident on all conceivable game platforms. This is an excellent adventurous horror exhausts-with an exemplary pace, a clear plot and charismatic heroes. The game constantly tries to surprise something: changes the landscape regularly, throws new enemies and unusual situations.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
- Year: 1999;
- Platforms: PlayStation, PC, Dreamcast, Gamecube;
- Cooperative: No.
Despite the outdated images, The classic resident Evil 3 still deserves attention. She balances the horror masterfully with the action, scares an aggressive pursuer who appears in the most unexpected places and is also distinguished by impressive overgrowth. Some Kat-Scenes Resident Evil 3 are interactive and enable you to choose what will happen. Surprisingly, Capcom no longer used this function in the most important games of the series.
Resident Evil 2
- Year: 1998;
- Platforms: PlayStation, PC, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Gamecube;
- Cooperative: No.
The Old-School Resident Evil 2 is still pleasant with the design of levels, interesting puzzles and hardcore gameplay when you have to count any bullet. And also – innovative mechanics, in the context of which the passing of a hero directly influences the race for the next character. For example, if you take an item from a cupboard for Leon, the Claire cannot get it. Again, it is a bit strange that Capcom has not used a similar system anywhere – even in a remake.
Resident Evil (Remake)

- Year: 2002;
- Platforms: Gamecube, Wii, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One;
- Cooperative: No.
Reflected Resident Evil is the best part of the series between games with a fixed camera. Her visual style was in advance: even today, Especially in the reprint of 2015 it looks impressive. But even more important, the other – the remake is perfectly realized by the most important elements of survival horror. Here you have a oppressive atmosphere and a well -considered management of resources and the confusing structure of the country house, where something interesting in every room is waiting. The enemies are little, but deadly. That is why it is extremely scary to play – especially if you can’t turn the camera and see who hides around the bend.
Resident Evil 2 (Remake)

- Year: 2019;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/s, Nintendo Switch (Cloud version), iOS, Mac;
- Cooperative: No.
One of the most influential games in recent years, after which the publishers and developers walked enormously to make new versions of classic horror films. IN The remake of Resident Evil 2 Capcom brilliant adapted the traditional elements of survival horror to the taste of the modern audience, without losing the essence of the genre. The studio made a game in which the old and new harmonious hurry together. The third -person camera, responsive control and cinematographic scenes are combined with old elements such as searching for keys, solving puzzles and study of complex levels.
Resident Evil 4 (Remake)

- Year: 2023;
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/s, iOS, Mac;
- Cooperative: No.
Immediately after the release The remake of Resident Evil 4 Many gamers hurried to name the game best in the series. It can then be attributed to a typical distortion to the new product. But since then two years have passed – it is sufficient to view the project without pink glasses. And what? The Restor Resident Evil 4 still looks like the most important competition for the title of the most important “monastery of evil”, especially with addition Separate ways. This is an excellent remake that not only respects the classics, but also brings its formula to perfection. The battles became more stressful, the story is deeper, the characters are more charismatic. And the increase in horror, even those veterans ran, who once blamed the original for an excessive slope to action.
