Hello everyone, my name is Danil Shevtsov, recently I remembered a game that suffered an unenviable fate. I’m talking about Silent Hill: Downpour, the last part of Silent Hill. As far as I’m concerned, she’s been through the same thing as DMC: Devil May Cry in her day. Like, “the game has gone from its origins, it’s not canon”, “You shouldn’t have started it at all”, etc. And I think this topic is very old and trite, but let’s see what Silent Hill: Downpour gave and what it took away.
TRAILER FOR THE GAME
nuuuu. First, what has definitely stuck with many is the trailer that was shown at the TokyoGameShow, performed by the American band KORN. Yes, Akira Yamaoka is a brilliant composer, but after listening to the song from the trailer a few times, you won’t soon forget it.

DEVELOPERS
As you know, Team Silent’s development unit was disbanded after the not quite successful Silent Hill 4: The Room, although the game got decent ratings, but we got what we got
Therefore, KONAMI publishing house has continuously transferred the title to various development studios.
The honor of Silent Hill:Downpour fell on the shoulders of Czech studio Vatra Games. Didn’t you hear about her? Me too, so let’s move on
ENEMIES AND BATTLES
HERE IS AN INTERESTING POINT. Since the combat here is straight out of Silent Hill: Origins, and a plus for the developer for not inventing a bike, but just taking the basics and customizing it for himself, anything can be a weapon in the game, a chair, a knife , a frying pan, a tarsher, a picture of mom, etc., well, another plus is that it looks cheerful and interesting in general, and also the weapon here has the ability to break, NOW, WHAT ELSE.
BUT EVERYTHING IS NOT SO GOOD WITH THE OPPOSITES. After all, they are nothing special here. There are some screaming women, men in lion masks and some healthy, pale foreheads, who clearly had high authority in the zone. For example, the enemies from the Team Silent game series not only looked terrifying, but their appearance also had a semantic load.
Here they look just creepy, and even then not all of them, the most vile being large white creatures crawling along the ceiling, and ghost dolls visible under the light of a special UV flashlight
GAMEPLAY
EVERYTHING IS GOOD HERE. The gameplay here is really pleasing, there are many different features that match the game.
For example: We know that the main character is a criminal. We also know that Silent Hill embodies all fears in reality, so a patrol car will drive through town, and if Murphy gets her attention, a small group of mobs will attack him
AND IT’S NOT THAT: Let’s pay attention to the title of the game Downpour.
If it is rainless outside then the local hydrometeorological station did not lie and everything is fine, if it rains a little then it is worth walking around and looking around as there is a risk of collision with the enemy, and when it rains outside with a thunderstorm, although we were promised a beautiful sunny day, we run to the nearest shelter, calling the nearest HydroMetStation along the way and insulting them.
ALSO THE CAMERA DOES NOT POST. Indeed, in many games, when the camera is behind the back of the main character, it happens because of not very skillful movements that the character is not visible at all, in this game I did not notice this, when a fight starts, then it moves a little back, and thus statically fixed behind the back.
PUZZLES
JUST.MEGA.AH*****E. Seriously. My first playthrough was in 2015 on a 360 box, and at the beginning of the game you are offered to choose the difficulty of the game and the difficulty of the riddles, and of course I chose the highest difficulty of the riddles, and I had to gather the whole family around the TV,
exercised. Interesting. And most importantly, they are straight PUZZLES, you have to sit up straight and break your head, not just take one item and put it in the right hole like many games do now,
ADDITIONAL TASKS
SPONTANEOUS INNOVATION. Basically a new feature for Silent Hill as some of them didn’t turn out very well, most of the time they are interesting. For example, return the stolen items to their owners and upon their return to one of the rooms we find the corpse of this same thief.
But here’s the job on the bench, very painful cliche, you just have to fend off waves of opponents
RESULTS
Let’s finish slowly and summarize.
Let’s start with the pros:
+ Fun gameplay
+ Challenging riddles
+ Nezazhezhdennaya boevka
+Additional tasks
+ Impressive musical arrangement
minuses:
-Not very impressive opponents
– Lack of complexity
-Scripted boss fight
This concludes my review.
If I didn’t say something in this review, I probably mentioned it in the video review on my Amaterasu Play channel
