NetEase has disabled the ability to use mods in the hero shooter Marvel Rivals with the first season update. While players complain about problems with their installation, the publisher threatens to block them.

The start of the first season not only added the Fantastic Four, a new map, and a battle pass. Players have discovered that custom mods simply don’t work anymore. It turns out that the update also added file checking, so all unofficial add-ons were disabled.
As users stormed the official Marvel Rivals Discord server, publisher and developer NetEase gave a laconic response to IGN: “It is not recommended to modify game files as this may lead to a ban”. Supposedly, mods threaten revenue from sales of premium character skins (like the recent Sue Storm skin), and the company has decided to remove the barrier to monetization.
Yesterday, Marvel Rivals updated its highlight online. The new record was set at 644 thousand simultaneous players.
