It seems that Minecraft 2 from the original game’s developer has been canceled. Markus “Notch” Persson decided to focus on another project.
Despite the fact that in a recent poll the “spiritual successor” was chosen by popular vote Minecraft”, the developer made a different decision. After some thought, he consulted with the team and left everything as it was:
I talked to the guys in the office. Looks like we’re doing levers and chests! The turning point was when PC Gamer called it fun lol… Trust me, a spiritual successor would be a lot less fun than a dungeon crawler. They always turn out to be sad, nostalgic trash cans.

Levers and Chests is a brand new game from Bitshift Entertainment, owned by Markus Persson. According to the developers, the project will be something like a voxel bagel in the spirit of Diablo. The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but there are screenshots.
Let’s not forget that in November 2024, Minecraft won the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards in the category “Best still current game on PC and consoles.” A full-fledged sandbox film starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa is also being prepared for the April 4 premiere.
