Why are the “mountain fires” burning? How is Igor Nikolaev connected with the song “Third of September” (memes with which he even reached Baldur’s Gate 3) and Igor Krutoy? How did Mikhail Shufutinsky create a meme, which was reborn 13 years later in a TV series? Today we are not all serious, but we will still answer these questions.
Briefly about Shufutinsky
Mikhail Zakharovich was born on April 13, 1948 in Moscow. His father, Zakhar Davidovich Shufutinsky, was a doctor and veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Little is known about his mother, as she died when the artist was 5 years old. His paternal grandmother was primarily responsible for his education.
Shufutinsky began studying music at the Moscow Music College named after MM Ippolitov-Ivanov. After graduation, he received qualifications as a conductor, choirmaster, music and singing teacher. By the way, Alla Pugacheva went to classes with him.
In the 1970s and until 1992, the musician performed throughout the country and in other regions, including the United States, but in 1992 he decided to quit and live in Russia. The annual release of solo albums allowed him to meet the composer Igor Krutoy, who invited Shufutinsky to sing “The Third of September.”

The creation of the song and its meaning
The lyrics of the song were written by Igor Nikolaev. He and Krutoy were good friends, so the author knew the details of his personal life and often drew inspiration for songs from his life. Whether the divorce in Krutoy’s life is connected with September 3 is not known for certain.
It is noteworthy that Igor Krutoy initially planned to give the song to another artist, but Shufutinsky, sensing the meme mechanism in the long run (in other words, a hit), said that he should sing it. Krutoy did not have time to promise the song to another singer, so he calmly gave it to him.
Mikhail Zakharovich himself has repeatedly noted that the number was chosen for its correspondence with the rest of the text and that there is no subtext in the date.
In 1993 he first sang “The Third of September” and a year later the song would be included on his solo album “Walk, Soul”. Later Nikolayev will tell you that in the first version of the text there was neither “the second of September” nor the moment when “everything was serious”.
Shufutinsky himself put an end to the sacred overtones, saying that on that day “no one quarreled or made peace.” This is an ordinary day when nothing happened. The remaining lines also do not have any special subtext, and the “bonfires of rowan” only complement the formed image of the “yellow leaf” and “burning promises.” However, Mikhail was partly lying, since his grandson was born on that day. In addition, today Intel officially introduces the Lunar Lake family of processors.
The birth of memes
The song first became a meme in 2011, when a photo of American rapper Rick Ross with a quote from Shufutinsky’s chorus appeared on social networks.
Users started joking that the artists were not particularly different from each other, which gave rise to many memes and photoshopped images. The meme gained full publicity and distribution in 2013. Since then, the meme generator has not stopped.

This year, a series of the same name was released, based on the song, with the participation of Shufutinsky himself. The season is designed for 8 episodes until September 5, and today episodes 3 and 4 were released. It is unclear whether the second season will be released next year, but it is clear that the meme industry has no plans to slow down. Earlier we also told how the horse from the movie “A Time to Live” blew up the Internet and became a new meme.
