Screenwriter of the classic Fallout and Fallout: New Vegas Chris Avellone decided to put an end to the dispute among fans about which studio games are the “best Fallout”. The judgment was not in favor of the second part.

When reviewing the Fallout series on his blog, the writer compared older games to parts of Bethesda. According to him, the first game was great, while the sequel, exclusive to Xbox and PlayStation 2, was controversial and had major lore issues:
Fallout 1 was [гораздо лучше]. It was fucking amazing. However Fallout 2 and console game Brotherhood of Steel wasn’t that good. I’d say they’re doing more harm to the franchise than ‘blaming’ people Fallout 3, 4 and 76.
As he went on to say, new games in the series might not have seen the light of day if the franchise still belonged to Interplay, as the studio was “unsure of the popularity” of Fallout. But Bethesda’s purchase of the rights “saved” the series, according to Chris Avellone.
If Bethesda hadn’t bought Fallout, I seriously doubt there would have been another installment, let alone on the scale of F3, F4 and the series… It’s a testament to the fact that a franchise in the right marketing hands can grow in ways that none of us expected.

The screenwriter has not yet reviewed the Amazon series himself and promises to do so later. Most of all, he loved the main characters, but felt that some plot decisions contradicted the lore.
Let us recall that recently one of the scriptwriters of Fallout 2 explained why intelligent Death Claws did not appear in other games of the franchise.
