During the recent Game Developers Choice Awards 2024, the head of Larian Studios spoke about the fate of additions to Baldur’s Gate 3 and plans for the D&D universe. In short: there will be no DLC and Baldur’s Gate 4.
As Sven Vincke explained, the studio planned the DLC after the success of the main game and even started development. However, the process was difficult. The developers wanted to introduce a new combat system, but this contradicted the fifth edition of D&D. Moreover, there were no ideas for new content.

‘Everyone felt like we had to do it [дополнение]but in fact it didn’t come from the heart, and we are a studio that follows the heart,” said the developer.
Then the head of Larian Studios took a short break over Christmas weekend, and when he returned, he canceled the project.
So let’s just wrap up BG3, it was great. We have done our job. This story has a beginning, middle and end. So let’s pass the baton to another studio to pick up this incredible legacy.
According to Sven Vincke, the studio employees accepted the offer with enthusiasm.

The makers of the third part will no longer work on the Baldur’s Gate series. Larian will concentrate on other projects. As the head of the studio assured, this is not Divinity: Original Sin 3, but something completely different and familiar to players.
Let’s not forget that at the 2024 Game Developers Choice Awards, Larian’s role-playing game received the most awards. Baldur’s Gate 3 also received the title of winner.
By the way, not so long ago we compiled the TOP 10 interesting facts about the head of Larian Studios, Sven Vinck. For example, one day he had to ask his future wife for money for gasoline, because he had spent all his savings on salaries for developers.
