A Polish player nicknamed Siriondel spoke about the regrettable experience of leaking others’ data. In 2020, a gamer published images online of cards and postcards included in the physical edition Cyberpunk 2077, which he later paid for.
According to Siriondel, before the leak, he worked for a printing company that printed materials for the game. At the time, he didn’t know the leak would hurt the business, and he simply wanted to share his find with the community.
The insider was deleted an hour and a half after publication. The next day, the gamer was called to a conference room, where he met with police. Because CD Projekt turned out to have a special leak detection department, they quickly found the perpetrator. Law enforcement authorities detained Sirionde, searched the apartment, seized a smartphone and a computer and sent him to the department.
The company immediately fired the employee while also announcing that the company could go bankrupt and be fined millions of dollars because of his leak. In the end, CD Projekt decided not to punish partners, which cannot be said about the insider. Authorities sentenced him to eight months of restricted liberty and community service. He mainly cleaned toilets and floors “local cultural center” and cleared the streets of snow. He didn’t play Cyberpunk 2077 until December 2023.
Finally, the player shared some essential tips. The leak cost him a good job, but he learned to become a master at cleaning toilets. “My house is always crystal clear”he jokes.
