Helldivers 2 offers a wide choice of weapons of different types. They range from assault rifles to submachine guns, shotguns to sniper rifles and more. The game offers great customization and improvement options, allowing gamers to create their own playing styles and overcome different challenges on the battlefield. In the guide we will tell you what types of weapons exist, how to get them and look at the best representatives of each type.
Helldivers 2 guides
What weapons are there and how can you obtain them?
As you progress through campaigns and develop your character, you will continually upgrade your equipment and unlock new weapons. The entire proposed arsenal can be divided into 4 categories:
- Strategies;
- Base;
- Subordinate;
- Grenades.
Strategies – special abilities that can be pre-selected and activated upon completing a mission. When activated, players will be supported by the main ship, which is in orbit around the planet. These could be orbital impacts calling for backup weapons.

Primary and secondary weapons can be chosen from a wide selection, including:
- Pistols – The main melee weapon. They are available from the very beginning and can be improved with various modifications;
- Guns – This is the basis for medium and long range combat. They have a high rate of fire and accuracy, but have limited magazine capacity;
- Shotguns – ideal for close combat, as they deal high damage over short distances. However, their poor accuracy and range make them less effective over long distances;
- Sniper rifles – have high accuracy and damage at long distances, and are especially effective against the weak points of armored opponents. But their slow rate of fire and limited ammunition don’t make them the best choice for close-quarters combat;
- Machine guns – have a high rate of fire, but low damage, making them ideal for suppressing enemies at medium ranges.
The entire arsenal in the game is quite balanced: improved versions of standard weapons have lower basic characteristics, unlike their original counterparts. In addition, there are many different grenades in the game.

All available weapons are unlocked as players progress. There are several ways to unlock something new:
- Level up: As your character levels up, you’ll gain access to new types of weapons;
- Received as a reward: you can participate in various events or activities, where you can receive weapons as a reward;
- To unlock via the skill tree: the game has a merit system, where you can use medals to unlock new types of equipment while receiving previous prizes;
- Purchase for currency: You can buy equipment with credits you receive for each activity in the game, or with super credits in the premium merit system, which you can buy with real money.
- Random reception: Sometimes a weapon will drop to you randomly during the game, but it will only be available until the end of the mission.
Once you receive something new, you can select it on the equipment screen before starting campaigns.

Best primary weapon
With your main weapon you have to eliminate a large number of advancing enemies. And your choice should be based on the goal set for you and specific opponents you may encounter in the future. Let’s look at the best representatives of this category.
SG-225 “Crushing Machine”
Most players agree that it is the best primary shotgun in the game SG-225 breaker. With a high rate of fire, excellent damage and the ability to fire in automatic mode, the shotgun is perfect for fighting both Terminids and Automatons.

You can obtain the “crusher” by using the medals you can unlock on the fourth personal achievements page. Despite its short range and rapid clip depletion, this automatic shotgun is an excellent choice for quickly taking out groups of enemies.
AR-23 Liberator
This is a starter rifle with good performance and is a reliable and versatile weapon for any mission. Experience with them will help you use the modified versions more effectively in the future. A standard assault rifle that players at a high level place in their personal top, because it serves perfectly in all situations and at different levels of difficulty.

It fires quickly, has low recoil, allows you to switch between automatic and semi-automatic firing modes, and does good damage per shot. The presence of a scope allows you to shoot from a distance, although the accuracy will be lower than that of sniper rifles.
R-63 Diligence
This rifle has two variants. The semi-automatic version has high damage and low recoil, but suffers from strong camera swing. Best suited for defensive combat where you can stand still and keep your gaze steady. Unlocked by completing missions for 8 medals. Particularly effective against automatics; a few shots at weak points are enough to kill living armored targets.
This weapon also has a sniper variant (Counter Sniper). It has increased damage and is extremely effective against armored opponents. However, the small clip reserve requires good teamwork, as it cannot handle large concentrations of enemies. Using it can be difficult if the player has no cover. Overall, both guns have their own pros and cons and are suitable for different situations in the game.
PLAS-1 “Plasma Rifle” (Scorcher)
The plasma rifle does the most area damage. Effective against any type of opponent, but dangerous in the wrong hands. Consider this an alternative to the rocket launcher in situations where you’re dealing with large groups of smaller enemies. The game doesn’t imply a PVP mode, but friendly fire is active on every mission, and if you use the gun incorrectly you can make the game extremely complicated for your teammates.

Best secondary weapon
There is a very limited selection of secondary weapons available in the game. Let’s take a look at most of them so that you can get a full understanding of them as they function in different ways, and ultimately determine the choice depending on what you want to use them for.
P-2 Peacekeeper
This pistol has a high power and is very suitable for use as a secondary weapon. It has a semi-automatic firing mode and a 15-round magazine, making it useful as a backup. Recharging is quite fast, which can be useful in critical situations.

SMG-37 “Defender”
This option is more suitable for Terminid locations, where battles take place at short and medium distances. For such missions, visibility is not that important, and the Defender is useful because it can be used with one hand. This is an excellent choice for data retrieval missions.

Despite some shortcomings such as low damage and low rate of fire, the SMG-37 remains one of the best weapons due to its balanced characteristics and ability to penetrate light armor. It is recommended to use when there is no easy opportunity to use the main weapon with two hands.
P-4 Senator
This revolver is very powerful, does more damage than other pistols and allows you to reload round by round. This means that the player does not waste any ammunition and can reload the weapon at any time without fear of losing the remaining ammunition.

It is well suited for destroying single targets at medium range. However, players note that the reload time is too long and believe that the weapon should be stronger. The creative director agrees and in the future the revolver can probably be strengthened.
Best grenades
As with other weapon types, you can only take one pre-selected grenade with you for each mission. They differ in scope and the choice depends on the playing style. We recommend that you choose the one that suits you best.
G-12 “High explosive”
One of the most important fragmentation grenades. Automatically opens on the first page of the earnings system. It has a good blast radius and breaks into fragments after a second, allowing it to deal serious damage to dense groups of enemies.

G-16 “Impact”
A contact grenade that has a noticeable superiority over the previous one. It has the same piercing damage as the G-12, but its activation time is zero, causing it to explode on contact with the ground or an enemy. However, this one has major risks when used, as it increases the chance of accidentally being hit by a shock wave.

The best offensive strategies
As mentioned earlier, strategies allow you to not only deploy orbital strikes, but also call in support weapons that can be crucial in completing missions. Let’s take a closer look at some of them.
MG-43 machine gun / M-105 Valor Tough
The MG-43 machine gun is a reliable weapon for destroying a large number of enemies. The large ammo capacity combined with high damage allows you to complete clearing missions quickly. “Valor”, in turn, has less destructive power, but higher stability when shooting while moving.
APW-1 Anti-material rifle “large caliber rifle”.
Can be purchased for 5000 credits at character level 2. Excellent for destroying enemies with light armor, its high power allows you to successfully perform aimed fire on key targets from a safe distance. However, it has one significant disadvantage: its effectiveness at short distances is extremely low and can only be used with a telescope.

RS-422 Railgun “Railgun”.
Unlocks for free at character level 20. It is the best weapon against heavy armored vehicles. To destroy tanks, 3-4 charged shots are enough, but after each of them a long reload is required, which makes it not very effective against clusters of ordinary enemies.
