V Rising is an isometric survival game dedicated to vampires that has become incredibly popular in a short time. If you want to use cheats and manage certain aspects of the game yourself, you need administrator rights, which only the creators of the server have. In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up your own server in V Rising.
How to choose a dedicated server
There are three different ways to set up a V Rising dedicated server:
- Rent a server from GPortal (paid).
- Set up a server with SteamCMD (free).
- Set up a server from within Steam itself (free).
Rent a server from GPortal
This option is suitable for those who are willing to pay to use the server. Just go to the V Rising related section on GPortal and then choose the server that best suits your needs or create your own configuration. The advantages of GPortal are ease of use and high performance.

Set up a server with SteamCMD
Using Steam CMD is a popular way for gamers to host their own dedicated servers. The action algorithm is simple:
- Download steam cmd.
- Extract the contents of the ZIP archive to a new folder and rename it to “steamcmd” without quotes.
- Run “steamcmd.exe” in the folder and wait for the installation process to complete.
- Go to the window that opens “log in anonymously” (anonymous input) without quotes and press Enter. Wait while SteamCMD downloads the data.
- Go to the window “App_update 1829350” without quotes and press Enter. Wait for the server files to load.
- Once the process is complete, enter “Exit” (exit) without quotes and press Enter.

Your server files are located in a folder at “steamappscommonVRisingDedicatedServersteamcmd”.
Set up a server from within Steam itself
There is another way to create your own server without using the Steam CMD.
- Open the Steam library and type “V Rising Dedicated Server” in the search bar.
- Install the V Rising Dedicated Server tool as a regular game on Steam.
- Go to the V Rising Dedicated Server window in the library, then select “Manage” and then “Browse Local Files”.
In this and the previous methods, you should see a folder containing your server files. It is needed for further configuration.

Configure your server settings
Go to the server folder. Right click on the file start_server_example.bat and select the item “Change” Go directly to the last line and make the following adjustments:
- Add the server name in quotes after the word “server name” This name will appear in the list of V Rising servers in the game itself.
- Specify the name of the save in quotes after “-saveName” This name will appear in your save files outside of the game.
- Save the changes and close the file.

Then navigate to the folder in “VRisingServer_DataStreamingAssetsSettings”. There are four important files here:
- adminlist.txt Add the names of those players who will be administrators on your server.
- banlist.txt In this file you can specify the names of players who cannot join your server.
- ServerHostSettings.json Edit this file to change the settings of the server itself. First, replace the words “Name” and “SaveName” with the server name and save the file you specified earlier in the start_server_example.bat file. Optionally, you can add a password and a short description of your server. In addition, you must enter numbers next to the words Port and QueryPort. You will need them in the future.
- ServerGameSettings.json Here you can set various settings for your game, which we will discuss separately below.

List of game settings:
- Game ModeType: Choose between PvP and PvE modes.
- CanLootEnemyContainers: If you set it to “true”, players can loot each other’s containers.
- BloodBoundEquipment: true allows players to save all items after death.
- Clan size: Determines the maximum number of players in the clan.
- SunDamageModifier: Controls the damage dealt to players by sunlight. The default value is 1.
- CastleDecayRateModifier: You can set the rate at which the heart of the castle decays.
- DayDurationIn Seconds: Set the day/night cycle time (in seconds). The default value is 1080.
- CastleLimit: This setting specifies how many castle hearts are available to each player. The default value is 2.
- VSPlayerWeekdayTime and VSPlayerWeekendTime: You can set the time of day when players can attack each other on PvP servers.
- VSCastleWeekdayTime and VSCastleWeekendTime: Ability to set the time of day when players can raid each other’s castles on PvP servers.

Starting and stopping the V Rising server
After completing the configuration, you can start the server. Click on the file for this start_server_example.bat A black window should appear with a few lines of text. This means that your server is up and running. To disable the server, move the mouse pointer over the black field and press the hotkey Ctrl+C You will be prompted to complete the task. Press to confirm Enter or Yes
How to Create a Private V Rising Server?
If you only want to play with friends, you need to create a private server. Complete all of the previous steps above to get started. Join your server, create a new character, exit the game and shut down the server completely.
The further algorithm is the following:
- Go to the folder with your saves, which is located at “save-dataSavesv1[имя сохранения вашего сервера]”. Delete all files except SessionId.json
- In the address bar of Windows Explorer, type “%Appdata%..LocalLowStunlock StudiosVRisingSavesv1” without quotes. All your saves are here.
- Choose the storage that will be on the private server. Copy the contents of this folder and paste in the path “save-dataSavesv1[имя сохранения вашего сервера]from which you deleted all files.
- Retype “%Appdata%..LocalLowStunlock StudiosVRisingSavesv1” in the address bar of Windows Explorer. Copy the files ServerGameSettings.json and ServerHostSettings.json
- Navigate to “%Appdata%..LocalLowStunlock StudiosVRisingServer” and paste these files.

After that, start the server and the game itself. You can continue the passage in the same place where you left off last time, but already on a private server.
Set up port forwarding for your V Rising server and let it pass through the firewall
First you need to set up port forwarding in your browser. For this you need to know the internal IP address. This is done in the following way:
- Press the key combination “Start” + R. Type the command cmd and press Enter.
- In the window that opens, type ipconfig and press Enter again.
- The line of numbers next to the words “Default Gateway” is your IP address. Write it down or copy it.
Port forwarding of your server
Then enter the IP address in the search bar of your browser. In addition to the Port and QueryPort lines, you must enter the numbers that you specified in the ServerHostSettings.json file.
If you need an IPv4 address, you can find it in the same place where the IP address is listed.
Passing through the firewall
This procedure is necessary so that other players can connect to your server.
- Press the key combination “Start” + R and then enter the command wf.msc.
- In the settings, search for “Rules for Inbound Connections” (Inbound Rules) and select “Create a Rule” (New Rule).
- Select “For Port”, then “TCP Protocol”, and in the “Defined Local Ports” line, enter the two required ports (Port and QueryPort), separated by commas.
- Click on the item “Allow the connection”, tick the appropriate boxes and give the rule a name, for example V Rising.
- Repeat the procedure from step 3, but instead of “TCP protocol”, select “UDP protocol”.
How to join a private server
- Start the game.
- Select Play, then Play Online, Find Servers, and View All Servers and Settings.
- Enter the name of your server in the search bar. If it doesn’t appear, look closely at the filter on the right. It is possible that some parameters are set incorrectly.
- Play the game
How to Play V Rising Offline
After the release of update 0.5.41448, players will have the option to play V Rising in single player mode. The algorithm for going offline is as follows:
- Open steam. Click the Steam button in the top left corner of the screen and select “Go Offline”.
- Start V Rise.
- Select “Play”, then “Private Game” and then check the box for the “LAN Server” extension. Then start the game.
To join a standalone LAN server, use the algorithm described in the “Logging into a private server” section. But when you come to a direct connection, before entering the IP address, check the box next to the “LAN Server” line.
