The theory about treacherous reptiles appeared already in the 1990s thanks to conspiracy theorist David Icke, but went viral after March 2023, when professor Alexey Bagirov spoke about it to a large audience. This spawned many memes and, as a result, games – e.g “Russians against lizards.” What kind of new product is this, is it worth your attention or is it just hype for hype’s sake – today we will try to find out.

If you’re wondering what conspiracy theorists look like, here they are.

Start menu
Yes, we’ll start the review with the menu, don’t be surprised. It’s just that the devil breaks his leg here: even if you understand the text, you can only rely on your muscle memory to dial in the settings. There are no difficulty levels, but you can choose one of the three characters and start the game by choosing one of the five missions. They are all opened at the same time and you will not receive any completion marks (except for achievements on Steam).
An important poll: are you for the Russian or the Lizards?
Gameplay
The missions have one meaning: to defeat all lizards and aliens. We make our way through crowds of enemies, collecting and using mugs of Baikal water as health elixirs. The player’s arsenal includes regular attacks, enhanced attacks and something like an ultimate skill, which must be picked up during the passage. When using such skills, the hero shouts out a meme phrase, for example, “Slavic ball clamp.” After this, huge phantom chickens will appear in the frame and throw eggs at enemies (and not what you thought).

In battle, a character can become enraged and receive improvements to damage and movement speed, but the screen will turn red, after which it will be impossible to see what is happening. While it is possible that it was the author of the article who bled from the eyes, this is not specified here.

By the way, the levels are absolutely linear and have invisible walls that prevent you from turning away from the heroic path.
So why all the hype?
“Russian vs. Lizards” came out right when it needed to. Memes about lizards managed to reach everyone, and the affordable price of 42 rubles only arouses interest. Today, players are divided into two camps. Some do not understand and are genuinely angry that interesting projects receive less attention than this ‘masterpiece’. Others aren’t looking for a deeper meaning and, after enjoying the memes and references in a game that can be completed in 40 minutes, move on.

Bugs, clumsiness in the mechanics, voice acting, banter – everything is in its place. The project is jokingly called the ‘game of the year’, but let’s hope the joke doesn’t get out of hand.
