IN In Cyberpunk 2077 you can accidentally or deliberately come into conflict with the local law enforcement agencies “MaxTac”. If after doing some illegal things your desired level increases, you will have to solve the problem in order to continue playing peacefully. However, some players may wonder what happens when you reach the maximum desired level. In this guide you will learn everything about the new police system in the game.
Crime and punishment in the original Cyberpunk 2077 was a rather weak aspect of the game, especially for gamers who were used to other similar games with an open world and a more detailed police system. Some want to indulge in mindless chaos and engage in serious gunfights.

But when a group of enemies teleport behind you and start shooting, while you ignore the equally antisocial behavior of other NPCs, it’s pretty bad for the gaming experience. In response to these criticisms, CD Projekt Red has completely revamped the police system for patch 2.0, and today we’ll discuss how the new and improved NCPD works.
How the desired level works
As players wreak havoc, a wanted level will appear next to the mini-map in the top right corner of the screen, indicated by one to five stars. All you have to do is break facial contact with your pursuers and hide somewhere to the side – then you will break away from the police and the desired stars will first begin to flicker and then go out.
Here are some actions that will cause desired stars to appear in the new patch:
- Harm to civilians or NCPD;
- The character was discovered in NCPD restricted areas;
- Stealing police cars.
The desired level almost always starts with one star. Right now, there don’t seem to be any particular crimes where crime is increasing faster than others. Therefore, the best choice is to inflict as many civilian casualties as possible and then engage the NCPD when they appear. As the number of bodies increases, the desired level will also increase.
The maximum desired level you can reach is five stars. But you’ll have to create a very serious mess to achieve this. In fact, it is not always possible to do this quickly, as the level can be reset quite easily.
A star

Commit a minor offense to get one star. Any police officers will be highlighted on your minimap, but they won’t necessarily be looking for you. If you avoid blue dots on the map that are out of your field of view, the problem will probably resolve itself.
Two stars

The first level of wanted with real consequences: the police won’t just randomly attack you when they notice, they will actively look for the hero. The main thing to look out for are the patrol cars driving to your last known location (and the surrounding area), each with two police officers. They are not a major threat, but their numbers may increase and you will have to make some effort to escape.
Three stars

This is a significant step up from the two-star wanted level, as many more police officers will arrive. They appear in groups of four on larger vehicles. In addition, the NCPD is being reinforced with robots and heavily armored tactical officers, as well as a sniper. If you are in an open area, you may experience problems. It is best to seek shelter in alleys of the city.
Four stars

Surprisingly, this isn’t a huge step up from the desired three-star level, but your enemies can now absorb enemy netrunners into their ranks, and cavalry can arrive in armored personnel carriers. Although they will not use weapons mounted on vehicles.
Five stars
If you were expecting tanks or something like that you might be disappointed, but that doesn’t mean it’s a piece of cake. In addition to the NCPD hordes from the previous manhunt levels, you will also have to deal with the very dangerous groups of MaxTac operators that descend from the dropship. They have heavy weapons and armor, and also possess several cybernetic enhancements that make them very serious opponents.
There is no shame in running away when faced with such insurmountable problems. Maybe you just want to escape on your own two feet because your opponents will take out your vehicle.
How can you get five stars quickly?
To start, you can go to the highway near Arasaka Tower. Before you reach the tower, stop near a busy area and look for blue dots (with vision cones) on the mini-map. This is the Night City Police Department. To get more stars easily, you need to defeat them. Then you get in the car and drive further towards the highway. Once you’re there, head out and equip yourself with your most powerful sniper rifle, as well as short- and medium-range weapons.

From here, destroy the approaching police waves up to four stars. Then you can jump from the upper highway bridge to another one below. There is a railing that goes up a steep slope and ends at the next bridge where the opponents will be waiting. Grab your sniper rifle here and by standing on the railing you can easily take out more to get your desired level to the maximum level.
How to survive against MaxTac in Cyberpunk 2077
Once you reach five stars in a certain area, the MaxTac team will appear – a kind of super soldiers from Night City. They are very strong, fast, deadly and can kill you easily. To deal with it, you need to always be on the move and use a lot of fast techniques in battle.
Try to shoot in the head, just like other opponents. You can start running away once you’ve thinned out the incoming group of enemies a bit. Since they land from a helicopter, it’s a good idea to throw a few grenades while landing. But as soon as they are on the ground – not before!

To escape your opponents, you must get out of their sight. It is advisable to follow narrow alleys past buildings and move away from opponents as quickly as possible. It is necessary to avoid open areas and stay away from roads.
At lower wanted levels it’s quite easy to hide from the police, but not in this case: the player is chased by several NCPD vehicles on the ground and in the air. Once you’re out of sight of the police, wait for the wanted stars to go out.

If you have played other games with a similar system, e.g Grand Theft Auto 5, you may be looking forward to a constant chase. But even at the maximum wanted level, local police are not interested in lengthy searches and will not explore every nook and cranny. Find a secluded spot to wait, but remember that reinforcements have a nasty habit of appearing on nearby tracks and open areas.
