Where to buy and how to steal a ship in Starfield – guide

One of the features of Starfield is the purchase of starships. At first glance, it may seem that the starting ship “Frontier” (Frontier) is enough, but we assure you that in the game you will find many different ships that differ from each other in many ways. And if you manage to find the perfect option for yourself, traveling through galaxies becomes even more exciting.

The starting plane will automatically become available almost at the beginning of the adventure. After generating the hero, talk to Supervisor Lin on the Vectera and complete a short tutorial. Just follow the story and run after the marker on the map until the settlement is attacked by space pirates. Once you’ve dealt with this, a ship will appear and you’ll be introduced to Barrett, a member of the Constellation.

It is this character who will literally give you his ship “Frontier” (Frontier) and recommend to fly to the headquarters of the “Constellation” in New Atlantis (New Atlantis). From now on, the first ship is available to you – all you have to do is climb aboard and start the engines. In space, of course, there are several tutorial missions to complete, after which players can take their ship wherever they want.

You can buy new ships in Starfield by talking to the ship maintenance technician located in the harbors of all major settlements on a given planet. For example, you can buy ships in the following cities:

Each ship for sale has unique features and options that meet the specific needs of the gamer, depending on your playstyle.

For example, if you plan to assemble a team to compete with the Enterprise, you must purchase a ship that can accommodate a minimum of five crew members. The Shieldbreaker is perfect for this. Conversely, if you need to overcome a long distance, we recommend purchasing a small ship, for example, “Shackleton” (Shackleton). The capacity is not that large, but it does provide more jumps per light year.

Maintenance technicians almost never repeat the range, so if none of the presented ships suit you, feel free to go to another planet. Don’t stop until you find a vessel that meets all your needs.

The price of ships varies from 70,000 to 300,000 credits, so you will need to collect enough money before you can upgrade the ship. Immediately after the purchase, you need to make the ship the main thing. To do this, please contact the technician again.

As you travel across different planets, you may encounter other ships that land nearby. This is a random event, so standing in one place and waiting for it is not worth it. But if you’re still lucky enough to see this, head to the landing zone to get the side task: “Eliminate all enemies and steal the ship.” It remains only to deal with all the crew members.

Once the additional objective is completed, a notification will appear stating that the next time you land, the received ship will become your main ship. But it’s also worth considering that if you steal a B or C class ship, you’ll need to raise the Piloting skill rank required to pilot it.

To improve your ship in Starfield, you must contact the ship maintenance technician and select the option “I want to view and customize my ships”. You enter upgrade mode, where you can upgrade your ship. Please note that some upgrades have specific skill or level requirements. You can perform multiple upgrades at the same time and the cost of each subsequent upgrade will be added together.

As we have already noted, if you buy a new ship and immediately change it, do not forget to make it the main ship (the corresponding item in the technician dialog). The upgrade menu also allows you to reassign crew members to different ships and outposts.
