Early access Starfield opens tomorrow. To celebrate the launch of the new game, Todd Howard posted a message on Reddit thanking fans for their support.

In particular, the game designer called the Bethesda audience “smartest fans”.

Hello everyone! I haven’t been here in quite some time. I just wanted to interject and thank you for waiting with such passion for Starfield. I remember the moment this subreddit was born, and as the number of contributors grew, your enthusiasm fueled all of us at Bethesda. We like to say we have the smartest fans, and that’s absolutely true. We put all our love into Starfield, and the fact that you’ve built a community around the game means a lot to us. We can’t wait for you to play Starfield.

Before that, Todd Howard wrote a letter thanking the players again, as well as Bethesda, Zenimax, Robert Altman (Robert Altman) and Phil Spencer (Phil Spencer).

Most importantly is the team I work with at Bethesda Game Studios. It is an incredible blessing to be surrounded by so many talented and inspiring people every day. Moments like this make you think. Some of us have been together for decades, some have just joined, but we all share the same passion. I am very proud of their constant drive to create something very special.

Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you for the Xbox and Bethesda family. Your enthusiasm and support have meant a lot to us. Making this game has been one of the most challenging and exciting experiences of our career, a journey we will never forget. And now that we’ve come to the end of this chapter, we hand it over to you. You will each receive an Early Access game and can start playing this Friday, September 1. But since we’re launching globally, you can play as early as Thursday night (thanks New Zealand!).

Remember, Starfield’s first estimates will come out today. The game will be released on September 1 for Deluxe Edition owners, and will not reach the rest of the players until September 6.
