As part of the Google I/O 2023 presentation, the Pixel Fold smartphone with a 7.6-inch folding screen (resolution is 2208×1840 pixels) was presented. This is Google’s first such device. The company revealed the features and price of the device and also released a video about it.
The smartphone is equipped with a Tensor G2 chip (the same as the Pixel 7 Pro). It has two Cortex-X1 cores (2.85 GHz), two Cortex-A76 cores (2.35 GHz), and four Cortex-A55 cores (1.8 GHz). The Mali-G710 MC10 accelerator is responsible for the graphics. The amount of RAM is 12 GB.
In addition to the main screen, the device also has an external 5.8-inch screen with a resolution of 2092×1080 pixels. The displays are made using OLED technology with HDR support and a frequency of 120 Hz.
There are versions for 256 GB or 512 GB. Google notes that the device is quite reliable and durable. Claimed 200,000 times. It is also the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market, according to the company. Folded, the thickness is 12.1 mm (unfolded – 6 mm).
The device has a 4800 mAh battery. Battery life should be more than 24 hours. There is support for 30W fast charging.
As for cameras, the Pixel Fold has five: two for selfies (8.3MP each) and three main cameras (48MP with optical stabilization, 10.8MP wide-angle, and a 10.8MP telephoto camera with five times zoom).
The cost of new items is $1799. The device will be released at the end of June in Germany, Japan, the UK and the US (pre-order is already available).
During the presentation, Google also introduced other novelties: the Pixel 7a smartphone ($ 499), Android 14 (it added a customizable screen lock similar to that of iOS 16), updated Wear OS, an 11-inch Pixel Tablet smart display ($ 499) and new version of artificial intelligence PaLM 2.
The company spent a lot of time on neural networks. For example, she updated the Bard chatbot, added support for an assistive AI called “Magic Editor” in Google Photos, and brought an innovation to Gmail in the form of a dedicated assistant to simplify the letter-writing process.
