Neil Druckmann celebrated the season 1 finale of The Last of Us in an interview with Kinda Funny. Now the team is working on an in-universe online game and after that they are embarking on a new project.
Druckmann hasn’t shared any details, but judging by the hints, this isn’t The Last of Us: Part 3.
I know the fans really want a third part. I hear about it all the time. So far I can only say that we have already started a new project. The decision has already been made. I can’t say what it is, but we thought long and hard about a new project and we chose what we most wanted to do.
Separately, Druckmann explained why the choice of a new project is so important.
At the end of each project, we purposefully explore different options. It can be a continuation or just new ideas. At such moments, we mainly feel what attracts us the most. This is a fire that should burn for many years. If you pick the wrong project and get burned out because you haven’t been excited about what you’re doing for the past two years on a four-year project, then you’re screwed.
