How to save the herbalist in A Plague Tale: Requiem. Method #1 (Gates Bug)

When you get to Section 5 Suburbs in Chapter 3 Burden of Blood, you come to a large open area with several buildings, lots of torches and campfires, and lots of rats. In total you will be opposed at the beginning by three soldiers, who are quite easy to eliminate.
It is worth making a reservation here. If you appear next to three soldiers at the beginning of the chapter, it’s easy to kill them. But it also happens that one enemy appears in the center of the location. First extinguish the torch of the nearest enemy (soldier with helmet).

A second guard in a helmet comes running towards the sound. Solve it the same way. We recommend waiting until it gets close enough to the first. This will later allow you to inspect the crate of ingredients (a large number of rats will run towards this corpse).

The last enemy without a helmet remains on the map. Don’t waste valuable resources on it. Just use a rock and a sling to deal with your opponent.

If you managed to separate the rats, you can run through the center of the map and inspect wooden box. Otherwise, use the branch to get to the building on the right. It’s worth noting that if you decide to run ahead, Luka can get stuck in a pack of rats. This will lead to you having to save a comrade with a pot of fire mixture.

Come in and take first pot right next to the corpse. It may not be convenient in this location, but it will certainly be needed in the following sections. Also take a look box right. is inside saltpeter (1) and elements (5) to improve Amicia’s outfit.
Exit the building on the other side and light the torch. Now you need to know the correct algorithm of actions to save the herbalist using a gated bug.

Grab a slingshot with a fiery mixture and run to the last fire on the right. As you follow here, a gate will open in the far part of the location. Light the torch on the far left and kill an unprotected guard.
As the soldiers are distracted by Amicia, the herbalist stands in the open gate. This will save his life. When you get rid of the first enemy, the rats will attack his corpse and ignore the rescued character.

You only have time extinguish the helmeted guard’s torchthat comes to you.

To discharge the location a bit from rats, on the right, find a bag of saltpeter. Throw a rock at him. It will break and put out the fire nearby. This will cause all the rats to run to the corpses in the car and you will be able to move freely on the road.

turn around and light the torch next to the canopy. Jump over the fence and look around secret (golden) chest. You can also do that next to the herbal doctor light a fire. It cannot be seen from a distance because of the bushes. Now you can leave the location with peace of mind.
How to save the herbalist. Method number 2 (rat distraction)
This method is a little more complicated than the previous one. The fact is that rats always behave differently. In some cases, they can ignore the herbalist, but only with the right combination of your actions.
Follow all the steps described in the previous section until you enter the first building on the right. Collect the jar and examine the chest. Light the torch and go outside. Take your time now. Do you remember the bag next to the car? If you shoot him with a rock, saltpeter will put out the fire and most of the rats will run to the corpses in the car. Do it.

Now run forward and hide in the bushes that are in the middle of the location between the fires. Equip a saltpeter and aim for the left guard (with helmet). When the opportunity arises – shoot.

Some of the rats were distracted by the bodies in the car. After the shot, the second part of the rats will run towards this guard. Now you have to act fast!
Equip the stone and as soon as the second soldier goes to examine the corpse of the first, throw it at him. If you do this too early or too late, the rats will see the herbalist and kill you! It is necessary to throw a stone at the head of the enemy after a swarm of rats runs to the right of the road to the left of the location (to the corpse of the first soldier).

If they throw a rock, many rats won’t even react to the second corpse. If you’ve done everything right, the herbalist will end up in the middle of the road between two large packs of rats.
Before leaving the location, don’t forget to inspect the secret chest and collect the ingredients in the wooden boxes.
Why save the herbalist and what feat can you achieve?
The developers certainly intended the inevitable death of this hero, because even if you manage to save the herbalist, Amicia will not receive any achievement or banal gratitude from the man. After the rescue, he just stays where the guards stopped him. Perhaps with future additions, the developers will correct this oversight.
