Recently The Sims 4 has become free, but when they try to access the game page on Steam and add it to the library, users from Russia and some CIS countries get the message “This product is not available in your region.” In this guide, we will tell you how to get around this ban and download the game.
Pick up the game with console commands or a browser
This method is relevant for free projects. We talked in another guide about buying games not available on Steam. For example, to activate The Sims 4, you need to do the following:
- We open the game page with an error.
- From the address bar, copy the last digits after /app/. For example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1222670/The_Sims_4/.
- Press a hotkey Win+R.
- In the window that appears, enter the following command and add the copied game ID at the end: “steam://install/1222670” without quotes. You can also just paste the received link into the browser and press Enter and then confirm opening the application “Steam Client Bootstrapper”.
- Click Enter or Okayand then in the Steam window that appears, confirm the installation of the game by selecting the required parameters.
- If the download is not required, cancel it. The project remains in your library.
How to download the game and bring it to your account with steamdb.info
This method as a whole is no different from the previous one, but it may seem more convenient to someone:
- Open steamdb.info.
- Click the button in the top right corner Login.
- Sign in with Steam.
- Enter the name of the desired game in the search engine.
- Click the green button to install at the top right of the page.
- In the Steam window that appears, confirm the installation of the game by selecting the required options and then cancel the download if necessary.
Unfortunately, not all games can be downloaded this way. The fact is that Steam allows you to restrict game downloads on two levels. In the first case, the game page is simply blocked, while in the second case, content loading is also blocked, followed by a redirection to an error page in the shopping client itself.
For example, GWENT: The Witcher Card Game can be downloaded using the methods above and a free set of modding tools in the form of DLC “REDmod” to Cyberpunk 2077 is no more.
View information about a game that is not available in your region
You may also need information about a game that is not available in your area. For example, system requirements or key features of the project. To open the game page, you need to enter the project name along with the word Steam in the search engine, then click the three dots or the inverted triangle icon and select “Saved Copy”.
Unfortunately, active blocks on a page such as reviews cannot be loaded this way. But you can see screenshots, system requirements, go to achievement page and game community.
