Five days remain before the election, and the David Broncano premiere on TVE is finally here, poised to quiet months of rumors. The controversy surrounding the presenter’s fee has been central, yet it is not the only hurdle. The question remains: should such a program occupy space on a public channel? And for what purpose? This Wednesday Broncano addressed several of these concerns. The big reveal on his forehead: he was already affluent beforehand. He has produced many formats and earned substantial money. The budget is not just for him. He has earned a lot, but not 14 million a year.

This signing reflects the interest of the General Content Director, José Pablo López, in making TVE a more competitive channel, at least through March 26: Resistance. Its reach among young viewers and social networks constitutes the main incentive. “It is amazing—how could it be easy to be in my position? I am young and dynamic. I work where I enjoy being, I walk to work. I have no financial difficulties, I have privilege,” he remarked during his La Revuelta presentation at the Vitoria Festival.

There will be two seasons, totaling 28 million euros. There is potential for extension, depending on impact. A key factor considered is the audience profile: “It’s a dense timeslot where powerful figures reside. I have not exchanged messages with Pablo Motos, but I did send him one anyway. Certainly they will win. What trials have they faced these days? 35%? I fear El Hormiguero could command 75% while we secure 1%. Yet the concern remains whether the series will stay compelling. Previously, measurements were looser because it was on a platform, but the data must be watched closely now.”

Regarding collaborators, there will be no shortage: Lala Chus, Antonio Resins, Ernesto Seville, Full Pantomime, Sergio Bezos, and more. There won’t be significant changes to the set either. “The theater remains the same, and the set hasn’t changed much. It resembles a ministry that graffiti artists may have invaded—an institution that has felt vandalized,” he joked. So there will be no visible difference. Not even in the content: “The program works incredibly well. We love doing it more and more. Our aim is to keep it looking as familiar as possible because it looks great.”

Is Pedro Sánchez on set?

Positioning Rebel as an ideological counterpoint only intensified the debate. Will Broncano become a catalyst for Pedro Sánchez’s ideology? For now, the presenter does not plan to interview him. “I don’t think I will. I want Mariano Rajoy to come. I will not enter as president, but I will not enter as registrar… It is absurdly funny.” In this context, RTVE Content representative Agustín Alonso outlined the main points in favor, emphasizing the possibilities.

“Treat the audience wisely. This is quality entertainment. There are many guests who do not participate elsewhere. The format has brought visibility to women’s sports, international artists, and language scholars. It is a complete public service. And finally, it is important to highlight the audience interaction. The aim is to showcase the diversity of Spain.” Broncano wished everyone the best for this moment with his usual sarcasm and highlighted the countdown to the big moment.

In sum, the premiere sets the stage for a bold experiment on a national broadcaster, balancing familiar comfort with energetic new voices. As authorities weigh the program’s reach against its cost, the show’s ability to attract younger viewers and generate lively social media conversations will remain pivotal. The public service broadcaster will continue to track audience engagement and adjust strategies accordingly, aiming to deliver engaging, relevant content while staying true to its mission of serving a broad audience across the country. .
