OT 2023 ready to premiere on Prime Video with Chenoa: I’m so grateful
To warm up for the upcoming broadcast, Prime Video released two preview episodes last Thursday from the center stage of the final castings, where viewers can learn the names of the aspiring artists. Eighteen singers will perform at the premiere on Monday. The final casting took place in Barcelona at the end of September, but it took almost two months for followers of the format to see both faces and voices revealed.
Victory of eight communities
Knowing who applied to Operación Triunfo, a geographic snapshot shows where the contestants come from. The eighteen applicants come from eight autonomous communities, with Andalusia representing the highest number of participants at five. The edition also features three international contestants born outside Spain who currently reside here: one from Uruguay, one from Ukraine, and one from Sao Tome and Principe. Lucas, who hails from Uruguay, provides a direct link to Latin America. Prime will air OT in South American countries as well as Spain.

Which communities are represented by the OT 2023 contestants among the eighteen applicants? Six contestants were born in Andalusia, the region with the most participants this year. These include Álex Márquez, Álvaro Mayo, Denna, Paul, Violeta, and Salma. The Canary Islands and Aragon also contribute multiple contestants, with Cris and Edu from the Canary Islands and Juanjo and Naiara representing Aragon. The remaining artists are Beatriz from Madrid, Chiara from the Balearic Islands, Lina del Sol from Galicia, Martin from the Basque Country, and Omar from Castilla-La Mancha. The three international contestants are Lucas from Uruguay, Ruslana from Ukraine, and Suzete from Sao Tome and Principe.
Valencian Community, the great forgotten
What about the Valencian Community? It stands as the most overlooked region in OT 2023, closely followed by Catalonia. None of the participants originate from Valencia, a surprising fact given the region’s population size and its potential to attract Valencian viewers to follow the new edition of the most famous television academy. This contrasts with earlier seasons when Valencian representatives made lasting impressions. In 2018, Alba Reche from Elche stood out during the competition and nearly claimed the crown, delivering some of the season’s most memorable performances such as La llorona and Toxic.

In another nod to past storytelling, the 2020 edition featured Samantha from Beniarrés, who became a focal point during the season as it navigated the pandemic. She advanced to the semi-finals and remained close to the final, a moment that resonated with viewers. Her later career included a high-profile relationship and continued visibility, underscoring how OT contestants can leave a lasting mark beyond the studio.
