Queen Margrethe II of Denmark underwent an operation on February 22. Officials say she is expected to resume her official duties when she reaches 83 on her birthday, April 16. Crown Prince Frederik and his wife are planned to attend King Charles III’s coronation, while the Queen of Denmark will remain in Denmark.
For Charles III, the coronation route in 2025 will differ from the long journey used in the 1953 ceremony for his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The royal procession will begin at Buckingham Palace and proceed to Westminster Abbey, with the ceremony set to be witnessed by around 2,000 guests. The monarchy will arrive in a modern carriage, a nod to contemporary ceremonial style. That same carriage had previously been employed by Queen Elizabeth II to travel to Parliament for her Speech from the Throne in 2014, marking a notable continuity in royal symbolism.
Earlier coverage noted that some ministers reacted to the decision that certain spouses would not accompany the royal family on the coronation route, a stance that stirred discussions within government circles. Officials emphasized security and protocol concerns as guiding factors in those arrangements, while remaining committed to a high-profile global event that draws attention from Commonwealth nations and beyond.
