Atresmedia Leads as Spain’s Top Broadcast Group in 2023: Audience Share and Key Markets

Antenna 3 finishes 2023 as the top network for the second year running. Despite losing six-tenths of a point versus 2022, the main channel of Atresmedia posts a 13.3% audience share and again holds the initiative over its rivals, driven largely by daytime data and news programming. Prime time also shows strength with formats such as Your Face Comes to Me, Mask Singer, El Desafío, and La Voz.

Around Telecinco, the year ends with a 10.4% share, a figure that keeps it as the second option in the market. Although Mediaset’s channel has slipped nearly two percentage points in a single year, it remains ahead of La 1. It is expected to grow by six tenths and finish 2023 with an average of 9.7%, the best annual figure since 2018.

LaSexta posts a positive balance with a 6.3% share, two tenths higher than the previous year. Atresmedia’s second channel again outperforms Cuatro, edging up by a tenth to 5.2%. In the same period, Energy rises by half a point to 3%, positioning itself as the leader among thematic channels and narrowly surpassing La 2 by a tenth.

Dos30’s annual report highlights football as one of the year’s most-watched broadcasts, alongside the UEFA Nations League and the Women’s Football World Cup. The Croatia vs. Spain penalty shootout attracted more than 7.2 million viewers and a 48.4% share, while Eurovision stood out as the most-watched non-sports event with 5,142,000 viewers during voting (Source: Dos30 annual report).

Atresmedia, leading group

Regarding group leadership, Atresmedia tops the chart with 26.8% of votes, followed by Mediaset at 25.6% and RTVE at 15.3%. In audience distribution, Antena 3 remains dominant among women (15.1%) and people over 65 (16.6%). Within the commercial targets, paid themes lead with a 14.6% share, ahead of Telecinco at 10.9% and Antena 3 at 10.7%.

Antena 3 closes the year ahead in after-dinner viewing with a 16.1% share, in the afternoon at 12.3%, and in prime time at 14.5%. Telecinco leads the morning segment with 12.4% and the late night with 11.2%. Weekday performance favors Antena 3 from Monday to Friday, with weekend viewing reflecting a different pattern (Source: Dos30 annual report).

Antena 3 continues to dominate the regional map, leading in 12 autonomous communities such as Madrid (13.2%), Andalusia (14.3%), and the Valencian Community (14.7%). In Euskadi and the Canary Islands, Telecinco remains the preferred choice, while La Rioja and Navarra see Telecinco in first place.
