The singer was accused of evading taxes totaling €14.5 million to the Spanish treasury between 2012 and 2014.

In the summer of 2022, the Spanish prosecutor’s office demanded that Shakira be sentenced to eight years and two months in prison, as well as a €23 million fine for non-payment of taxes. In response, the artist insisted that she had no outstanding debts to the Spanish authorities.
