Physical activity, language learning, games, healthy sleep and social activity help improve memory and keep your brain healthy. Igor Matsokin, a neurologist in the Atlas clinical network, told socialbites.ca about this.
The doctor explained that the development of the brain occurs throughout a person’s life. But this happens when the brain receives a load of information and learns something new.
“It would be helpful to read, memorize poetry, solve puzzles and crosswords, make board and even computer games,” he said.
According to the neurologist, it is equally important to follow the regimen and not avoid physical activity.
“People 65 and older should get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. And you need to sleep at least 8 hours a day, because lack of sleep is directly related to the accumulation of “metabolic waste” in the brain, including beta-amyloid, from which nerve cells die,” he explained.
Matsokin added that social activity is very important for the normal functioning of the brain.
“Constant communication with other people activates the brain, complicates its activity, helps reduce stress levels. Social ties and communication are very important especially for the elderly.”
