To prevent the development of eye diseases, it is important to take breaks during visual stress, do eye exercises, and also humidify the air in the room. Irina Zimina, an ophthalmologist at Atlas clinics, told socialbites.ca.
“To prevent eye diseases, it is important to do visual exercises, use ‘active’ vision and apply moisturizing drops if necessary,” said Irina Zimina.
According to the doctor, in case of prolonged visual stress you need to take a break at least every hour and do eye exercises.
“For example, convulsive blinking for 5-10 seconds, the “sign in the window” exercise when you need to shift your gaze from a distant object to a nearby object. It is also helpful to mentally summarize the shapes in the space in front of you: rhombus, triangle, square, figure eight,” Zimina gave examples.
The doctor added that it is important to use “active” vision more often.
“It means seeing, not just looking. Consciously examine objects in the field of view,” the ophthalmologist explained.
The doctor warned that the air is very dry in urban conditions, so fluid intake is important.
“You need to be in the fresh air for at least 30 minutes a day and turn on a humidifier indoors. “The doctor may recommend using moisturizing drops, especially if the person spends a lot of time in front of the screen or wears contact lenses,” he advised.
