star podium
The most discussed event of Moscow Fashion Week was the appearance of Larisa Dolina on the catwalk at the fashion show of designer Dzhemal Makhmudov, who has long dressed the singer and many of her colleagues. The actress appeared backstage in a tight black corset and trousers, richly covered with mirror shards. He was wearing a lush green cloak the color of the Russian flag. In addition to Dolina, Makhmudov’s models were Anastasia Volochkova in a peach dress with a bow and Alena Blin in the photo, whom the Telegram channel “Antiglyanets” called “the villain from the cartoon.”
Dolina’s outfit was criticized on social networks – some users thought that it was not worth making a wardrobe item from the national flag. Dzhemal Makhmudov himself said in his post on Instagram (the owner of the Meta company is known as an extremist in Russia and was banned): “As a designer, I must show a trend. It’s a trend in the world I live in. This is my understanding of reality! And any creativity is self-expression. Taking risks in creativity gives freedom! People who love their country and culture!”
Other stars, including foreign stars, also visited during the week. At the fashion show of the Maison Esve brand, Ornela Muti’s 49-year-old daughter Nike Rivelli appeared before the audience in her floor-length lace dress. The mother was watching her daughter from the front row.
Besides Ornela Muti, Chinese actress Lily Ji also represented the foreign star soldiers of the week in vintage national dresses. He attended the fashion shows of EFREMOV, BEENA and Julia Dalakian brands and was particularly impressed by the GAPANOVICH collection, which he described as the most beautiful.
musical discoveries
The week also opened with a spectacular performance: rapper Timati performed at the gala show of Russian designers at the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” in the 75th pavilion of VDNKh; The models’ shows were accompanied by music.
The week closed with a gala show of Russian fashion schools, accompanied by the OTYKEN group, a very original group from Krasnoyarsk, whose members consist of representatives of small indigenous peoples of Siberia. Using a jew’s harp and deerskin drums, they perform folk-pop songs with throat singing in Chulym, Khakass, Dolgan and Russian languages.
Keep up with the times
Fashionable ethical trends did not bypass Moscow. There was a commendable commitment to sustainability and inclusivity at Fashion Week. The by/DAS/ brand, founded by three girls, introduced an upcycled collection of quirky knitwear in green, swamp and brown goblincore colors popular with young people. And the Tyumen brand Tweed&Ko exhibited a collection of vintage woolen fabrics from the former Tyumen Worsted and Cloth Factory: despite the antiquity of the materials, men’s and women’s coats and suits of the brand turned out to be quite modern (albeit sometimes too bright). A trend towards environmental friendliness was also observed in other collections of designers working with natural materials such as linen, nettle and cotton.
The age of many of the models increased the inclusiveness of the fashion shows: as at the Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, in Moscow they realized that beauty is not just youth. Models with Down syndrome Martin Kalagin and Alina Khusainova attended the fashion show of the Ulyanovsk brand Kuzina, it was not their first appearance on the catwalk, but they have not yet performed in Moscow.
From far away countries
In addition to Russian designers, fashion designers from Asia, Africa and Latin America also came to Moscow. Brands from Indonesia, Costa Rica, Brazil, Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, India, China and Ethiopia exhibited their collections. Those who expected a riot of colors from Brazil were disappointed: the AO brand house presented clothes of very restrained colors with elements of historical cut. The collection prepared by the Tunisian brand Anissa Aida, inspired by national ceramics, did not dazzle either. But the Indonesian House IRMASARI JOEDAWINATA was pleased with clothes made of crinkle silk: it is not for nothing that this material is strongly associated with Southeast Asia.
In colors and ethnic patterns
Can you highlight some of the trends from Moscow Fashion Week? Yes – and these are, first of all, flowers. The floral theme continued throughout the week; As decoration, voluminous 3D flowers, floral prints and floral decorations were abundant. There are no fashionable transparent and translucent materials in Moscow, but we must admit that our designers are a little more prudish than the creative directors of big brands. Not a single visible nipple was seen on the podium. But there was tulle, organza and mesh.
Another important trend is the rethinking of ethnicity and national traditions and crafts. In this sense, the EFREMOV brand attracted attention and created a streetwear collection containing elements of the Kuzey Mezen painting. And the name of the Orenburg fashion brand Orenshal most likely speaks for itself: it presented the best Orenburg shawls and their varieties on the podium, showing that the feather shawl is in fashion.
