Berlin Fashion Week, held twice a year since 2007, ended in the capital of Germany. In 2024, it lost its main sponsor – as a result of which the name of the Mercedes-Benz car brand disappeared from its name – which, according to German journalists, gave the Week participants freedom of creative expression. By the way, it was not the first time that the dates of the event coincided with demonstrations in other countries – Berlin Week took place after Copenhagen Week and before New York Week. In addition, this time they did not organize a fashion fair, as before, in parallel with the fashion shows in the German capital.
More than 30 designers participated in the Autumn-Winter 2024 Week, held between February 5-8. They offered a variety of styles, from vibrant streetwear to avant-garde, deconstructed runway looks that aren’t for everyday use. However, among the total mass of products shown, a number of trends can still be detected, which go from collection to collection and are quite relevant to real life.
Skin
Leather clothing has been in trend for several seasons. In the autumn and winter of this year, German designers offer leather dressing not only for fans of motorcycle and BDSM aesthetics, but also for rather conservative fashionistas. The latter will prefer leather raincoats in the color of baked milk from the brand Kilian Kerner, while the bolder ones from the collection of the same House will pay attention to the reconstructed “biker jacket” with open shoulders, low-volume sleeves and giant patches. pocket. Those who want to look bright and seductive will most likely not switch to a leather dress with a lace-up corset from the brand Namilia or a miniskirt decorated with leather ribbons with a short-cut jacket from the house of Olivia Ballard.
Shoulder volume
The ghost of Balenciaga from the Demna Gvasalia era still haunts Europe, and designers do not deny themselves the pleasure of presenting clothes with exaggerated shoulder lines on the catwalk. Namilia brand exhibited its bright jackets at Berlin Week. And the House of Bobkova exhibited in Berlin bright blouses in the style of the 80s, with a wide and harsh shoulder line.
chocolate color
This year brown is the new black. This was confirmed by designers in Berlin. The soft, delicious chocolate color is perfect for vintage attire. Bobkova brand exhibited its dark chocolate toned blouses and suits in Berlin. The house of William Fan, one of the few in the German capital to offer unquestionably wearable products, suggested combining soft brown blouses with sequined trousers. Finally, at the presentation of the Malaikaraiss brand, milk chocolate colored jackets and coats were introduced.
40s
Since anything is possible in fashion today, brands are going to extremes, from radical frankness to fierce modesty, where important parts of the body are covered according to all religious rules. Designers who chose to cover the models this year drew attention to the silhouettes of the 40s of the last century: voluminous puffy sleeves, A-line skirts, dresses that fit well at the waist but do not squeeze, the length of the skirt is always midi. Hooliganism is allowed when choosing the material: the brand Marcel Ostertag showed a dress with a silhouette of the 40s, made entirely of lace, that is, translucent.
Tartan
Scottish check (or plaid) appeared in many collections this year – most likely it can be called the main trend of the season. For example, the variety of checkered colors allows the materials to be used in soft, calm Anja Gockel coats in shades of gray and pink. A cropped bomber jacket looks brilliant with the ultra-short Olivia Ballard skirt from last year’s catwalks. Finally, plaids are also suitable for the conservative black and white look offered by the William Fan brand.
