Recently, Spain’s former representative at Eurovision talked about the economic problems he faced at certain periods of his life in an interview with El Mundo. He specifically remembers having his electricity cut off because he couldn’t pay his bills: “And I had to spend three or four days with the candles, but hey, it resolved.”
Karina, who is saddened by the “short” retirement that artists leave behind, points out the importance of asking for help in such situations: “You always have to talk to your parents, in this case my daughters, so they can pay your bill. There’s always a way out.”
He also has no problem admitting that he sometimes wants a job on television: “They said many times that Karina had retired. They wanted to retire me, and I said I was always active. I don’t drop my rings. “Work honors us, and going through bad times makes you stronger, as long as the bad thing doesn’t last too long.”
Karina: “I was banned a lot”
In an interview with the aforementioned media, Karina admits: felt “ignored” around record companies. “Also, I won’t tell you about your colleagues because they do their own thing. They don’t trust you because you don’t record, because you’re not up to date. You don’t exist,” says the performer of songs like ‘El búl de los memorias’.
He also talks about the harassment that took place at that time, revealing that he rebelled “at the moment of being touched.” “I chose the songs, but after that there was always a coffee, there was an arm on me, I was touching my arm or my hand a lot.”says the singer: “I wasn’t going any further. But of course you were offended.”
He describes the particularly unpleasant incident he had with a theater and cinema producer as follows: “The opening moment started and she offered me a movie to show me her breasts and told me what she wanted was to touch them.
“I immediately stood up and jumped out of my chair. I told him he was confused and that I wouldn’t be visible on a screen showing anything of me if I didn’t want to; I would let him touch my breasts.” He admits the following about an episode that would close many doors for him: “I was banned a lot (…) because I was told I was too close. I went with whoever I wanted, not because I was close.”
