Taking risks with Men G

It was reckless on TVE’s part to dare to broadcast the Hombres G concert live in the middle of prime time. I speak not from the perspective of the audience of David Summers’ generation, but from the perspective of the wisdom that guides public television programmers.

How did they allow themselves the luxury of making such a risky move that almost cost them the bronze medal in the middle of December 29, three nights before they finished the month in which they won the silver medal? The concert at the WiZink Center in Madrid ended with an audience share of 5%; This was like a stab in the back for a channel that had no choice but to come second behind Antena 3 in the December rankings. . . To compensate for the slippage, the New Year’s Eve wild card, which always brought very high numbers to La 1, was still available, to Telecinco’s detriment. But still, such arbitrariness should never have happened. We already know how music works on television, unless it’s Christmas Eve, when the audience is on its own and accepts everything from King’s Message and Telepasión onwards without touching the remote control.

In the end, December ended with a huge 10% tie between Telecinco and La 1, thus placing both channels in second place behind Antena 3. I am one of those who are very convinced that TVE should not compete, but rather bid. Products that qualify for public service status. But if they chose to do so, remember that they were stepping on Telecinco’s toes. In the annual calculation, La 1 ranked 3rd with 9.7%.
