Mulled wine is one of the most popular warming drinks you can prepare at home. Yuri Manchuk, brand chef and ideologist of the Charlie restaurant in St. Petersburg, told socialbites.ca how to properly prepare mulled wine.
For preparation, Yuri Manchuk recommends using dry red wine. However, if you want to use semi-sweet, remove granulated sugar from the recipe. Besides the wine, you’ll need brandy, half an orange and an apple, spices, three cinnamon sticks, cloves and star anise.
“First we prepare the fruit: we cut the apple into slices, while freeing it from the seeds. Take your favorite pot with a capacity of at least two liters. Pour in the wine, add the chopped apple and orange, spices and granulated sugar. “Don’t forget the brandy,” said Yuri Manchuk.
Then put it on the stove and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
“Cover and boil. Add a few sprigs of pine needles for literally 2 minutes, then you need to remove them from our mulled wine. After the mulled wine boils, remove it from the stove,” advised the brand’s chef.
