You can lower your body temperature during illness without resorting to medications. Olesya Savelyeva, senior therapist at Meditsina JSC (clinic of academician Roitberg), told socialbites.ca about this.
According to Savelyeva, cold compresses can be applied when body temperature rises.
“Applying a cold compress to the forehead, back of the head, wrists or hips can help lower body temperature. You can use a wet, cold washcloth or dip a towel in cold water to create a compress, the therapist explained.
Drinking plenty of fluids also helps lower body temperature, he noted, and both “hot stimulating drinks” and natural juices and water, including cold ones, are recommended.
You can also lower your fever by taking a cool shower, according to Savelyeva.
“Taking a cool shower or bath can help lower your body temperature and create a cooler feeling. The water can be cooled gradually to avoid sudden temperature changes,” the doctor said.
He added that when temperatures rise, light clothing should be worn and physical activity should be avoided.
The therapist explained that these methods should be used sparingly, especially if the fever is caused by an infection or “other painful condition.”
“If your fever or symptoms continue to rise, you should consult a doctor to evaluate your condition and receive the necessary treatment,” Savelyeva said.
