The 74-year-old Lakeland resident bought a lucky lottery ticket from a store near his home on January 5. It happened the day after her daughter had her last breast cancer treatment.
According to the woman, she did not immediately believe that she had won the jackpot. As lottery reps noted, Dozier-Gimblet had a 1 in 3.9 million chance.
The winner’s daughter, Laurencene Jackson, said her mother spent all her savings on breast cancer treatment before the disease receded.
On Good Morning America, Laurence Jackson said, “What he did was very important to me. I don’t know how to thank him. I just have to keep loving him – maybe that helps.”
