Former Scottish Prime Minister Alex Salmond, head of the Alba Party, said that the Skoon Stone, known as the Stone of Destiny, did not leave Edinburgh and King of Great Britain III. He said it should be used during Charles’ coronation. It has been reported Times.
“In a context where the legitimate desire of the Scottish people to at least hold a referendum on self-determination has been ignored by the Westminster government, I see no reason for the Scottish government to say timidly: ‘Yes, we will give you what you stole 700 years ago,” Salmond said.
The coronation stone is a sacred relic of Scotland and is a rectangular piece of ancient red sandstone weighing 152 kg. Until the end of the 13th century, the stone was kept in the Scottish Scoon monastery. It was smuggled from Scoon Abbey in 1296 by the troops of the English King Edward I and then used in the coronations of English kings. The relic was only returned to Scotland in 1996.
