New York wine boutique and auction house Acker Merrall Condit will pay a $100,000 fine to clear accusations of selling counterfeit bourbon. It has been reported New York Post.
The store agreed to pay the regulator the maximum penalty for selling counterfeit Colonel EH Taylor Four Grain bourbon for $1,000.
This issue was first reported in 2021, but investigators did not reveal details of the case until February 1, 2023. In particular, it was learned that the store employees bought counterfeit bourbon from a private collector despite warnings that the product was not genuine.
John Capon’s attorney, Kevin Dunow, assured investigators that the owner took full responsibility and that this would not happen again.
Acker Merrall has been around for 203 years and is featured in brochures as “America’s oldest and most respected liquor store.”
