Clothing reporter Andre Leon Talley sold at auction for $3.55 million

Sales of the late Vogue credit director André Leon Talley’s items raised more than $3.55 million at Christie’s, well above the pre-sale estimate of $455,000. www.

All 66 lots put up for auction have been sold. These included a red jacket that sold for $25,200, three Louis Vuitton suitcases that sold for $94,500, and a pair of Louis Vuitton canvas briefcases for $69,300.

Other items at auction were two Karl Lagerfeld illustrations by Tally, which sold for $32,760 each, and Andy Warhol’s Diana Vreeland Rampant, which sold for $94,500. 1996 sold for $30,240.

Proceeds from the sales will benefit Baptist churches in New York and North Carolina.
