Old dressers, bulky armchairs, coffee tables and Soviet floor lamps can be easily transformed and fit into a modern interior. Evgeny Grinevich, an interior designer and founder of the UfO Design Vision design bureau, told socialbites.ca about this.
“A second life definitely deserves a solid old chest of drawers. In the youth of our grandparents, furniture was made to last, they served them for more than half a century and will serve you for another hundred years. The point is small – they need to be refreshed and updated with the help of color. ”
The designer also advised not to rush to get rid of large armchairs and coffee tables.
“Change the padding and change the upholstery to velvet or printed. A bright sofa of non-standard shape will make your interior stylish and unique. To breathe new life into a coffee table or a standing sideboard, it is enough to simply renew the lacquered coating and modernize it with the help of real accessories or appliqués.”
Another decoration of the house, according to Grinevich, can be bulky floor lamps.
“Drag the lampshade with a new fabric, restore the frame with gold paint from a spray can – this way you will get an original author’s decor element,” he advised.
According to him, an old sewing machine can also fit perfectly into a modern interior.
“Even if you can’t sew, don’t throw away your old sewing machine. Many people only use restored subframes: a cast iron base and a wooden table are integrated into the interior of a kitchen or office,” he added.
