Actor Idris Elba explained on Twitter why he stopped calling himself a black actor. He believes race is irrelevant to the profession.

“There is no one in the world who would not be wondering if I consider myself a black person. Acting is a profession, like architecture. They are not defined by race. But if you define your job by race, that is your prerogative,” Elba wrote.

In an interview with the Esquire actress on Feb. declarationthat obsession with race can “interfere with people’s aspirations”. According to the actress, skin color should not decide anything in her career and other areas of life. “When you achieve success in your career, you are asked what it was like to be the first black person to do this or that. But that’s how it is even if I’m white,” Elba stressed.
