Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia explained that the scandalous ad campaign in which the brand was accused of promoting pedophilia was associated with punk culture, not BDSM aesthetics. He talked about it in an interview with Vogue magazine.
According to the designer, the advertisement of the Gift Shop gift collection was intended to show the consumer the various products included in it, including children’s clothing.
“It was a series of things that didn’t belong together, and the concept was that different things were shot together. For the “gift shop”, children’s clothing and teddy bear-shaped bags belonging to the punk and homemade culture and no BDSM at all were selected and worn at the October 2022 show. adults,” explained Demna Gvasalia.
