On Thursday, January 16, the New York state appeals court ruled in favor of billionaire investor Leon Black, dismissing the defamation lawsuit filed by Güzel Ganieva, who accused the co-founder of Apollo Global Management of rape. The Manhattan Appellate Division said the woman tried to extort money from him. The model accepted $9 million from Black, including a $100,000 monthly stipend, before filing suit in June 2021.
The lawsuit was filed based on a March 2021 interview in which Black admitted to having a consensual relationship with Ganieva and claimed to have extorted money from her by threatening to make the matter public. Ganieva accused him of sexual harassment and abuse of his job position for years.
