In a recent episode of The Town podcast, famed film director Denis Villeneuve, who directed Blade Runner 2049 and Dune, explained why he isn’t interested in making a movie in the Star Wars universe.

In the podcast he said that he first saw the Star Wars movie when he was ten years old. It was A New Hope, which Denis Villeneuve said immediately stuck in his childhood brain and created an obsession with the story.
He added that he had watched the episode “The Empire Strikes Back” numerous times, but the impression was spoiled by the last part of the first trilogy.

He said that as a teenager he even wanted to go to George Lucas with a friend to vent all his anger.
It’s a long story. I was 15 years old and my best friend and I wanted to take a taxi and go to Los Angeles to talk to George Lucas – we were so angry! And it’s all because of the Ewoks. It eventually became a comedy for children. Star Wars has become entrenched in its own mythology, very dogmatic. It seemed like there was a recipe, no more surprises. So I don’t dream of making Star Wars because it seems too coded.
Denis Villeneuve was also asked on the podcast if he wanted to make a Star Trek movie, but the director replied that he was never a fan of the franchise.
Let us remind you that we previously reported about the star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan’s new film.
