You can prepare non-alcoholic mulled wine at home by adding a variety of ingredients, including black currants. Irina Articleeva, director of the bar department of the Shokoladnitsa chain of coffee houses, told socialbites.ca.
“In rainy, cool weather, you want to warm up with a warm and pleasant drink. According to legends, mulled wine was prepared in ancient Rome. And the non-alcoholic version is no less delicious. The important thing is to choose a quality wine with dense structure and maximum wine taste,” said Irina Articleeva.
He also added that wine should be in dark glass that protects it from direct sunlight.
“It doesn’t matter whether the plug is screw or cork. Wines from grapes in the northern regions of Italy and France have a lighter flavor palette and contain less natural sugar. If you like a more astringent and intense taste, you should choose wines from sunny grape varieties or raisins from the south of Italy. “In this case, you will get a languid, tart taste accompanied by notes of chocolate and tobacco,” advised the expert.
Irina Articleeva emphasized that wines with a minimum amount of additives and sugar should be preferred.
“Natural ingredients and the absence of preservatives are signs of a quality product. Good non-alcoholic wines will have a balanced taste that retains the characteristic fruity and floral notes of their alcoholic counterparts. It’s also worth looking at the label to see how the alcohol was extracted. Vacuum distillation or reverse osmosis are considered optimal, as they preserve the aroma and taste of the wine as much as possible,” advised the department’s manager.
The expert added that star anise and cinnamon stick will give the drink a sharp taste and a warming winter effect; you can also add cardamom and ginger.
“An equally important traditional component of mulled wine is berries and fruits. Apple and cranberries will enrich the overall flavor bouquet with their acidity. You can also use black currants – this will be the highlight of mulled wine. The presence of this fruit will add uniqueness and a certain pungency to the taste. However, if you don’t have fresh fruits, syrup will do the trick. It is important to heat all ingredients except honey. “This is a classic ingredient used to prepare a drink, but honey should be added at the end, as it loses many of its properties when heated,” concluded Articleeva.
