Munich beer bar Giesinger let customers pay for beer with sunflower oil. Thus, the institution is struggling with the shortage of this product, reports Reuters.
Bar staff offer beer lovers a free liter of drink for the same amount of sunflower oil.
“The action came about because we ran out of oil in the kitchen. We must be creative. Oil is very hard to come by, if you need 30 liters a week and you only get 15 liters then at some point you won’t be able to fry schnitzels anymore,” said bar manager Eric Hoffmann.
Now in German bars a liter of beer sells for about 7 €, a liter of sunflower oil about 4.5 €. The offer is attractive to buyers, but there are not enough products in stores, because 80% of world sunflower oil exports came from Russia and Ukraine.
