Nuno Gallego (‘Elite’): “The sex scenes were the easiest; it was like dancing”

It’s real. The process was also very beautiful because we were younger than we are now. A big group of young people who had a great desire to do their first series and to make art. We all went with great excitement. It was very beautiful. It was very difficult but super beautiful.

It blew me away. It was a great reference for me as a Spanish series. And before that as a novel. It seems very ugly to me.

Here he plays a kid who wants to be a drug dealer and has a Romeo and Juliet-style love affair. What a great combination: bad guy and lover boy.

He wants to be her godfather (Tamar Novas) and his story is similar, but to a lesser extent. But yes, I love Marco so much… He is a boy in love who will do anything for love. But in the end, what happens is what happens.

Do you consider yourself romantic?

I’m very romantic. There are guys who can act tough but not me, I’m super romantic.

Yes, it’s a completely different role. I was the villain last season.

All actors and actresses love to play bad guys.

It’s a pleasure because I don’t know how the others will be, but in my case Héctor is completely different from me. That’s what I like to interpret the most: that he is someone who doesn’t share anything with me.

Although his character also shows his vulnerable side, he falls in love.

After all, every bad person hides a reason why this is the case. In Héctor’s case, it’s because of how repressed he may have been in the family and the environment he grew up in. And also for love and not being reciprocated.

In ‘Elite’ he stars in some very explicit gay sex scenes. What was it like filming them?

It was even easier than shooting the others. Because you have Fernando Líndez, whom I consider a great friend, also a great colleague and a very professional choreography. So everything was very easy. It was just going to the intimate set and shooting.

Were there proximity coordinators?

Yeah, and they choreographed it for us. We did it. It was like dancing.

There is a logic to this. Dancers have no taboos about their bodies. And young people are becoming fewer and fewer.

Yeah, we come from a different generation that was freer. We didn’t really care. There were no problems.

What do you think about the ending of the series?

I loved it. It seems like a nice ending for a series as long-lasting and characteristic as ‘Elite’. It seemed perfect to me. I hope it leaves everyone happy.

(Laughs). I’ve already started to notice the fan thing a lot. You start to see them stopping you on the street, asking for a photo, and for now I like it. It’s not something that bothers me at all. I’m actually still attracted to that world. It’s true that I didn’t experience it the way I did at the beginning of ‘Elite’, it was ugly.

In the beginning, all the young Spanish actors and actresses wanted to be in the series. Because he wanted it. It was like a goal for young people. But I still didn’t want to work. I was training. From time to time I imagined what it would be like to have so much success and so much fame. It was a very powerful phenomenon.

And when they called him he would be ‘shocked’.

It was crazy because they also called me to do the series ‘Clanes’. It was like one news story after another. I was thinking: is this real?

To become a biologist, which I initially dreamed of, you have to work hard, but the actor also has to bend his elbows..

Yes, very much. Now I’m in a new project and I don’t leave the house. I’m crazy (laughs). After all, it’s much more than months of shooting, because there are preparations, everything psychological that this requires… All work is difficult…
