One in ten women finds it sexy when a man reads a book. 12% of young people agree that a girl who reads books is more attractive than a girl who does not like literature. socialbites.ca was told about this by the dating service Mamba and the literary platform Litnet, which conducted a survey of 5,002 Russian residents.
According to the research, 67% of women check one way or another whether their potential partner reads books. A little more than half of men also pay attention to this. A third of girls and 21% of teenage boys said they wouldn’t date someone who didn’t like reading.
More than 71 percent of women are interested in the literary tastes of a potential lover. Men, on the other hand, pay less attention to their friends’ preferences. At the same time, nearly 70% of teenagers admitted that they could be influenced by the books a potential partner chooses.
According to the survey results, women and men respond equally well to a person’s love for two works: “War and Peace” by Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy and “Crime and Punishment” by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky. If a young boy speaks positively about John Gray’s book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”, 20% of girls will be impressed. One in ten people rate themselves as loving the Fifty Shades of Gray novel series.
Men, on the other hand, will be influenced by women who love JK Rowling’s Harry Potter (16%), John Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings (14%) and George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series (13%).
Experts pointed out that, in general, the literary preferences of young men and women are quite different. Almost a third of women like psychology, 28% like Russian classics and 18% like detective stories. Girls more often than boys read romance novels, erotic works, esoteric literature and successful entrepreneurs.
There are many fans of Russian classics among young people, as well as among women. Men also like to read fantasy (23%), scientific literature (16%) and foreign classics (15%).
Experts also said that more than 30 percent of men surveyed believe that being well-read is an indicator of women’s education and intelligence. According to a quarter of Russians, a love of literature is a sign that a girl has a broad perspective.
