To keep your heels soft, do not rub them until they turn red, and choose uncomfortable shoes that will create unnecessary stress on your feet. Varvara Kotova, product and training manager of the Palchiki chain of manicure and pedicure salons, told socialbites.ca.
The expert noted that you should not forget that when doing a pedicure at home, you must first shape your nails and then do the cleaning and scrubbing procedures.
“The length of the free edge on the toes should not exceed 1 millimeter, its shape can only be a smooth square. If you allow the length to grow longer than expected and file the shape incorrectly, the risk of injury, flare-ups, or problems such as ingrown nails or onycholysis increases,” Kotova said.
After this stage, the expert recommends taking a foot bath with medicinal herbs such as chamomile, string or sage. You need to steam the skin in water at a comfortable temperature for 10 to 15 minutes. Then you should use heel peeling. You can buy the product in a store or make it yourself from a mixture of coffee grounds, oil or shower gel.
For those who want to further process their feet using a foot planer, Kotova recommends opting for metal-based files with fine silicon carbide abrasives. This material allows you to care for your feet without damaging your skin.
“Abrasiveness is measured in grit, for home care, 180/240 grit is used. Wooden files and pumice stones have a porous structure, they are very difficult to clean and process, which contributes to the proliferation of various types of bacteria. Laser files have small, sharp cuts on their surface, which cuts can tear the skin if not properly cared for,” the expert explained.
Kotova added that the file cannot be used more than once every two weeks. In this case, the treatment should be done according to the skin pattern, without applying pressure. You can also apply a nourishing mask or cream to your feet after the procedure.
When choosing a last resort, you should pay attention to the time of year. During the cold period, you should prefer thick creams with nutritional properties containing lanolin, panthenol, urea and various oils. In the hot season, experts recommend using moisturizing gels with a mild revitalizing effect.
“The presence of menthol, fir or pine extracts and rosemary oil is important here. It is especially practical to use various creams containing urea, as this will prolong the life of your pedicure and allow you to get soft and soft heels,” explained Kotova.
