Since cucumbers and zucchini are unpretentious, they will grow in plastic pots and a box. However, the roots of bell pepper and eggplant are sensitive, it is better to choose separate peat pots for them. An expert from the OBI construction hypermarket chain told Gazeta.ru about this.

“The question of where to plant seedlings is a very important question if you want to get strong and vibrant sprouts. There are many options: from cut plastic bottles to special peat tablets. The choice of the most suitable container depends on the type of crop and the options for growing seedlings with or without picking,” said the expert.

Kryukova noted that plants with a tap root system need to be handled especially delicately.

“A simple plastic box is the cheapest option, fits easily on the windowsill and can be easily transported to the shed. But it will not be possible to grow full-fledged seedlings here: the seedlings need to be thinned and planted in separate pots. In trays and cassettes, seeds can be germinated before transferring them to the soil, but it is not easy to remove the soil ball from them, which can damage the delicate roots. Compressed fine-grained peat containing nutrients is an excellent environmentally friendly option for any crop, but the price of such tablets is quite high. Peat pots are also useful, the main thing is to keep the soil moist.”

The expert also reminded that the seedlings should be placed on south-facing window sills. On the north side, seedlings need additional lighting, for this it is worth purchasing a special fitolamp that glows in the red and blue spectrum.
