The Republic of Altai, Dagestan and the Republic of North Ossetia are among the most popular destinations for adventure tourism in Russia – travel to natural and often hard-to-reach attractions. socialbites.ca learned this from the joint work of the MTS Travel hotel reservation service, the tour operator RussiaDiscovery and the Russian Travel Industry Association.
“From March to June 2023, the most popular region for adventure tourism was the Altai Republic – one out of every four trips took place in this direction. The study says that almost the same number of trips (24% of the total analyzed tourist flow) were made to Dagestan.
The top five leading regions in terms of the number of tourists interested in unusual natural attractions include three more republics: North Ossetia (10%), Adygea (9%) and Karelia (7%).
“These five regions together account for 75% of the adventure tourist flow considered from March to June this year, and this is largely due to seasonality,” the analysts said.
From spring to early summer, the most popular natural attraction among Russians was Sulak Canyon in Dagestan. In second place is the Dagestan Chirkey reservoir, and the village of Chemal in the Altai Republic closes the first three, where there are many attractions associated with the lower reaches of the Katun River.
New tourist destinations are also gaining popularity this year: the village of Teriberka in the Murmansk region, Seydozero on the Kola Peninsula and reindeer herder camps in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
