Soft sugary drinks, sugary breakfast cereals, candies, sweet or salty packaged snacks, pastries, instant noodles, processed meats can cause rapid weight gain. Anastasia Efimova, a nutritionist at Atlas clinics, told socialbites.ca about this.
“All these products, along with fast food, are ultra-processed. They are high in salt, sugar, and saturated fat. Consumption of ultra-processed foods has been proven to be associated with increased risk for health and fat gain,” explained the nutritionist.
The doctor says that unlike fresh or minimally processed foods, ultra-processed foods tend to be high in calories.
“Fruit juices, sodas, sweetened breakfast cereals, pastries, instant noodles, sausages and sausages are low in fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. At the same time, a large amount of sugar and fat in them leads to a gradual increase in weight, ”said Efimova.
The nutritionist warned that special attention should be paid to “liquid” calories from sugar-sweetened beverages.
“Fruit juices, carbonated and sports drinks, sweetened coffee and tea don’t make you feel full. As a result, you can quietly gain extra pounds with an additional daily consumption of 200-300 kcal with just a soda or a shelf of coffee, ”the doctor warned.
