French actor Alain Delon’s personal art collection, collected over the last sixty years, is up for auction at Bonhams under the title Alain Delon: 60 Years of Passion. writes about it gaps.
The French actor will sell a significant part of his collection at Bonhams auction house in Paris on June 22, 2023. The auction will feature some 85 works by artists such as Veronese, Corot, Delacroix, Millet, Degas, Dufy, Bugatti and Gleizes. According to preliminary estimates, the sales amount will exceed 5 million Euros.
“I see two things as my legacy: my acting career and my art collection. I am extremely proud of both. I bought my first drawing in 1964 in London,” Delon said.
In 1969 his interest in collecting became more serious. Le Monde wrote at the time: “At an auction at Sotheby’s in London on Thursday, actor Alain Delon bought for £58,000 a drawing by Albert Dürer depicting a 14cm x 11cm insect.” A little over a year later, Delon purchased a Rembrandt drawing for £55,000.
In the years that followed, Delon’s collection expanded significantly with several acquisitions he made at Sotheby’s in London.
