Chiuri dedicated most of her collection to the surrealist artist Frida Kahlo, known for her independence and individuality.
“The Mexican artist transcended her body with outfits that became a performance, an announcement, a protest and an affirmation,” fashion house Dior said in a statement.
The brand’s collection consisted of redesigned tuxedos, floor-length velvet skirts and elegant blazers with puffy shoulders and intricate details. Thus, Dior paid homage to Kahlo, who tried to draw the line between masculine and feminine in clothing.
The collection also included lace and printed dresses inspired by Mexican flora and fauna.
